Stebbins' letter asks William Greenleaf Eliot about the University of Washington and its management. Stebbins was regent of the University of California (1868-1894) and was in the process of bringing the school "into form". Stebbins ends his letter by praising Eliot's son, Thomas, and his acceptance of a post in Portland.
